I am a 30-something year old Wife, Mom, Analyst, Wannabe-gardener-baker-photographer (hard to pick just one!).  I have 3 beautiful, highly energetic kids and an amazingly supportive husband.  We also have a nutcase dog – I’m not joking, she’s pretty crazy, but we love her anyway!  We live in Cincinnati, Ohio and love it.  If you’ve never visited, you really should, there is something for everyone.  Some of our favorite activities include canoeing, biking, running (I’ve run 4 half marathons so far and plan on more!), walking, playing and just being outside.  I plan on taking up paddle-boarding as well.  I would highly recommend you follow because that’s probably going to be somewhat comedic.  I initially became interested because of paddle-board yoga – also something you should try.

Anyway, in September of 2016, I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.  My doctor said “the typical life expectancy from diagnosis is 30 years.”  Say what?!  I have a lot more than 30 years left in me!  I decided it was time to make some lifestyle changes.  We had already started to really clean up our diet, but this time it was going to a new level for me.

I started this blog to document where I am, where I’m going and hopefully help some people along the way.  Diabetes is really becoming a huge topic and there is SO MUCH information out there, how do you know where to start?  That’s where I come in.  I can tell you what has worked for me and maybe together we can find what works for you.  I am NOT a doctor and I don’t play one on t.v.  My acting skills are actually quite terrible.  I have been researching a lot and I can tell you again, what has worked for me and my best hypothesis as to why.  I encourage you to talk to your doctor about any changes you might make.  (Great advice that I rarely follow, luckily I’ve found an endocrinologist that understands this about me and is very encouraging when I do want to try something new.)

Follow along and definitely try some of the recipes that I write about.  I’m not about to come up with ones myself, however, I will post the ones that I find taste good and keep my numbers in line (that’s what this whole this is about right?).

I guess I should add that I’m a big fan of Pinot Noir – despite the name of the blog – Cabernet just fit better 🙂

Let’s have some fun!
